The Inflatable Head of Columbus«, 2006 parodies a failed Christopher Columbus monument in Puerto Rico. The statue, designed by Russian artist Zurab Tsereteli, was rejected by several U.S. cities before arriving in Cataño, Puerto Rico, costing the towns millions of dollars in shipping alone. However, finances collapsed, the Mayor of Cataño (Edwin “el Amolao” Sierra) resigned for psychological reasons and the controversial project was never erected. Today, Columbus lies fragmented in thousands of pieces of bronze, deteriorating in an outdoor lot next to the Bacardi Factory in Cataño. The only recognizable feature of the statue had been the giant Head. To commemorate the 500-year anniversary of the Death of Christopher Columbus (May 20, 2006), Miguel Luciano installed an inflatable replica in the Plaza Colón (Columbus Plaza) of Old San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Wal-Mart has been found to violate the National Labor Relations Act in the past. In a 2008 case, which pertained to events in 2000-2002, the NLRB found that Wal-Mart illegally fired an Arizona employee because of his support for unionization and ordered him reinstated with back pay.

The board also ordered the company to post notices in the workplace informing employees they have a legal right to support the union if they desire.

In 2007, the board ordered Wal-Mart to take back disciplinary action imposed on a worker charged with distributing union materials on work time.

Even if a local union wins an election, companies have sometimes succeeded in dragging out talks for years.

''With an employer like Wal-Mart, it's almost axiomatic that will automatically happen,'' said Bruce Nissen, a Florida International University labor sociologist who has written extensively about unions.

Wal-Mart, the world's largest retailer, said its workers don't want to unionize.

''Looking at all we offer, many of our associates just don't seem to feel that union membership would be a better deal,'' company spokeswoman Daphne Moore said.

In the 1960s the U.S. Navy set up an array of underwater microphones, or hydrophones, around the globe to track Soviet submarines. The network was known as SOSUS, short for Sound Surveillance System.
The listening stations lie hundreds of yards below the ocean surface, at a depth where sound waves become trapped in a layer of water known as the "deep sound channel."

The Bloop is the name given to an ultra-low frequency underwater sound detected by the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration several times during the summer of 1997. The source of the sound remains unknown.[...]
According to scientists who have studied the phenomenon it matches the audio profile of a living creature but there is no known animal that could have produced the sound. If it is an animal, it would have to be, reportedly, much larger than even a Blue Whale, the largest known animal on the earth.

“The city should not be in the business of deciding what goes on, whether there is dancing or not dancing,” Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg said in 2004. “We have dance police. This is craziness.”

The mayor was referring to the city’s 1926 cabaret law, which forbids dancing by three or more people in any establishment that does not have a valid cabaret license — even if the business serves alcohol and plays music. In the past, bars have been padlocked when a few patrons were caught swaying to music, and the Giuliani administration often used the law as a tool against clubs deemed nuisances.

It is a striking fact in the city that never sleeps that customers are allowed to get up and dance in fewer than 200 businesses.

COWS began to make ice cream in 1983 with an old-fashioned family recipe that originated in Cavendish, Prince Edward Island. In fact, our secret COWS recipe dates back to the time of Anne of Green Gables and contains the same all-natural ingredients that were enjoyed by the children of Avonlea.[...]

In 1985, COWS introduced a fun assortment of clothing for its staff to wear. A great deal of attention was drawn to these clothing items by the ice cream customers; not only did the customers want to buy our ice cream, but they wanted to buy our staff clothing! Responding to this interest, COWS introduced a line of T-shirts and sweatshirts, which featured the colourful images of outstanding designers. The images became extremely popular and further products (caps, mugs, towels, sleepwear, etc.) were added to the COWS retail mix. COWS clothing and images have been seen around the world, and response to our Catalogue store has been excellent!
